LEARNING STYLE INVENTORY
GOAL SETTING
LIBRARY AND CAMPUS RESOURCES
TIME MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS
MEMORY, LEARNING AND IMPROVING CONCENTRATION
TAKING LECTURE NOTES
ACADEMIC INTERGRITY AND PERFORMANCE
So, guys! Wake up from our school life. Our school era are over and now we are officially become a university student, so we need to be more matured and independent in every thing and make changes about our life such as our objectives and targets for an achievement, attitude and management.
Students need to understand how information is learned and understand the needs of using various kind of active learning stratergies in learning, retaining and using the information (encoding, storage and retrieval) and hence, indicates how one learns, remembers and forget.
💎SENSORY MEMORY 1. numerous incoming information from 5 senses will be stored in the sensory memory for an instant. 2. if one PAY ATTENTION to the stimuli, it will go to the short term memory (STM) 3. if one does not pay attention, then the information will be lost 4. therefore, it is very important to pay attention while lecture, reading, and etc
💎SHORT TERM/ WORKING MEMORY (STM) 1. very limited storage. from the SM, information will be delayed to STM. 2. while in the STM, information must be rehearsed/ repeated or use some active learning stratergies in order to get information to LTM, other information will be forgotten. 3. therefore, students must realize that applying memory stratergies is important to strengthen the memory ability.
💎LONG TERM MEMORY(LTM) 1. this is unlimited and large storage 2. from STM, information moved to LTM and stored here for later use (retrieval)
🧠 HOW FORGETTING COULD OCCUR 🧠
Did not pay attention to the information
Cramming (last minute study)
Interferance (Having two exam on same day)
Did not understand the information
Did not have good stratergies
Test anxiety(Negative thought)
🧠 MEMORY STRATEGIES 🧠
Memory stratergies will help students in their encoding, storing, and retrieving the information(helps to remember and recall)
“Remembering is hard work, and memory techniques do not necessarily make it easy, they just make it more effective”
-Kenneth Highbee, (Van Blerkom, 2009, p.93)
🔮Memory strategies (How to improve your memory):
Massed practice vs Spaced practice
2. Break reading material down(again no cramming) for some period of time e.g. 2 chapters per day, not all chapters a day before the exam.
3. Rehearsal- repeat the information many times e.g. repeat a telephone number 10 times.
4. Elaboration strategies:
Associations – “connect” each word with a person, place, thing, feeling or situation. For example, “My altruistic Aunt Alice gives great gifts” (altruistic means generous)
Acronyms/Catchwords – e.g. MAS – Malaysia Airline System -e.g. UiTM – Universiti Teknologi MARA
Concerntration: Focusing your attention on what you are doing
🔮Causes of poor concerntration:
Lack of attention
Uncomfortable environment
Physiological matters – worries, anxieties
Distraction of others
Physiological all matters- illness, tiredness
Lack of motivation
Lack of interest
🔮Strategies to improve concentration:
Use motivational and organizational strategies – create interest in work
Create a positive learning environment – find a better location
Deal with internal distractions- deal with personal problems
Use active learning strategies (as discussed in improving memory)
Match your learning style to the task
Monitor your concentration
monitoring my concentration chart;
🧠READING/ STUDY SYSTEM(SQ3R)🧠
Create Awareness; using a study system can help in comprehending reading academic materials due to three factors :
Active learning stratergies
Use of multisensory methods(eyes, ears, mouth, hand-refer to learning pyramid)
Immerse steps for self-testing and review

Questions
Where did first political institutions emerged in?

ACTIVITY:
activity 4-1 were done during lecture; activity 6-1 were done during lecture;
On 5 of august, UiTM Tapah has organized a LIBRARY TOUR programme for their students. During that programme, they explained the facilities that they provided in PERPUSTAKAAN TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN which is also known as PTAR
One of the facilities that they provided are OPAC :
OPAC is the system in PTAR that UiTM used for student to easily seek their book in PTAR . OPAC is very systematic because they organize the book orderly .
Besides OPAC the facilities that they provide is a discussion room that operates 24 hours per day . In that discussion room student, students can have a group meeting and have a quiet place to study.
PTAR also provided :
Bilik Pandang Dengar
Book Drop Machine
Meeting Room
Stage
This library operates from 8:30a.m. until 5p.m.
Before entering the library, you should know that student have to follow the rules which is Sahsiah Rupa Diri(SRD). Students also needs to bring their student card before entering the PTAR.
PTAR is 3 level stories building and each level has their own facilities . Its maximum capacity is approximately around 790 students in one time .
At level 1, we have information centre, 24 hrs study room and references book which is more about agama, english and dictionary. we also have surau, toilet and computer lab.
At level 2, student can borrow the book out from the
library. as you can see at this level, its has so much books about core
subjects which is accounting, finance, statistics and many more.
At level 3, this level is especially used for final exam only.
In order to set goal to achieve your dream, you need to be open to change yourself. you shouldn’t stick to your oldself attitude. You need to be matured and plan you life carefully. thus, you need to calmly accept the fact you are college student and quickly adapt to the new surrounding.
Set priorities for the first three weeks
You will need to set you goal according to the first three weeks after entering the university. There is no such thing you need to plan your goals throughout your whole life. Start slowly.
Plan for early success
After setting you goal for the first three weeks, you will need to moderately succesing your goals. Do whatever it takes to make sure your goals reach its own success.
Maintain academic honesty
When it comes to honesty, when the lecturer give you an assessment or assignment, please tends to do it yourself. NO PLAGIARISMS. Do not copyright other person work to make your work easier. please take note that lecturer knows whether the assignment is copied from other resource or it is made by your own hands!
Plan rewards
If you find yourself hard to cope with your goals and planning, you can convince yourself to complete your goals with rewarding yourself afterwards. You rewards yourself with shopping or food-hunting to satisfied yourself after your goals is achieved.
Nevertheless, another way to set your goal for new semester is:
Improve your academic standing
Consider consequences
Learn how to calculate your gpa
Revise your goal periodically
The five step to approach to setting goals:
STEP 1: Write down what you want to accomplish
STEP 2: Write down any obstacles
STEP 3: Write down any recources
STEP 4: List your motivation
STEP 4: Review and revise your tentative goal statement
My example of 5 steps to approach to setting goals
save absence for when youre sick or have a real emergency you cant avoid. When you mis class, you will also miss lecture, notes, explaination, discussion, and sometimes quizes and in-class assignments.
People learn and memorize information using a lot of learning styles
In the class, Madam Khairulliza has give us a paper to determine each student’s learning style. For example, this is my learning styles:
learning style inventory
SUMMARY:
I am an Kinesthetic learner, I learn by doing things physically. I understand and remember things I have done. Im a hands-on learner. I have good coordination and learn by doing. In addition, I can remember instructions well if I do it myself. I generally have an active approach to my own learning styles.
After this class, I am aware of what is going to happen in my life for the next 5 years of my life. Adjusting from school life to college life may be hard, but the challenges and the obstacles are very enjoyable. The experience may not be exchange with any other experience in my life. I can not wait to face them
